Midwest 3 on 3 Basketball

"Thanks again for bringing your 3 on 3 league to Forest Lake. It was a great experience for our community, program and me. I am really looking forward to this league growing and expanding in the future! And thanks again for all of your hard work. There have been so many positive comments! With the money we have earned, we purchased a video camera, tripod and case, digital scout equipment and off-set costs for our two out-of-town trips!" -Jennifer

why host a midwest 3 on 3 league?

MONEY!

The amount of money you and your program can earn by hosting a Midwest 3 on 3 league will depend on several factors. As a site director, you will make decisions about some of these factors:

  1. Length of season (typically 5 or 6 nights)
  2. Cost per participant (typically $35 or $40)
  3. Reffing (paid or volunteer)
  4. Concessions
  5. Admissions

A brand-new league will earn approximately $3000 in its first year. A well-established league could easily bring in $10,000! Upon completion of your league, Midwest 3 on 3 will cut checks to the program(s) and/or league workers of your choice.

Midwest 3 on 3 has proven to raise thousands of dollars for other high school athletic programs. So many fundraisers revolve around your athletes "selling" various products. The parents and the players typically have averse feelings towards these types of "product sales" fundraisers. By hosting a 3 on 3 basketball league or tournament, you won't be "selling" someone else's products. Rather, you will be providing an excellent opportunity for your community's younger basketball players to improve and develop their basketball skills.

IMPROVE SKILLS!

3 on 3 basketball offers a fun, hard-to-find environment for today’s youth in which to play basketball. Gone are the days of kids forming their own teams and playing pick-up games for hours at the park. Today’s basketball players spend most of their basketball time in very structured and controlled settings. With a Midwest 3 on 3 basketball league, players work as a team to coach themselves. They have the perfect opportunity to work on different aspects of their game in a low-stakes environment. There is no coach there to “critique” everything they do. You will see post players improving their ball handling and passing. You will see guards improving their rebounding and post-up moves. With only three players on the court, each player has increased offensive and defensive opportunities.

By offering the youngest of players a FUN, low-stress environment in which to enjoy playing basketball, you will be adding another component towards improving your basketball program. Be sure to ask about the optional 3 on 3 clinics that can precede a league to help teach some 3 on 3 strategies to the players.

COMMUNITY BUILDING!

When you combine fun, competitive basketball with hundreds of boys and girls of all ages, you have a great basketball atmosphere! The younger players love to watch the older players. You may have your Varsity players reffing the games and interacting with the players. They become powerful role models and motivators! This league format fosters great relationships between your varsity players and your younger players coming up in the program.

The parents enjoy watching 3 on 3 games because their child is always involved in the action!

If you are a Varsity coach, you may find that hosting a Midwest 3 on 3 league will bring in more positive community feedback than anything else you’ve tried!
