Haakyn Mohr (Hawk-'in), age 5, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Wilms Tumor Pediatric Cancer on January 9th, 2019. He has endured Radiation and Chemotherapy treatments for the last six months. During his treatments he has continued to do intense Physical Therapy to fight side effects from the toxicity of Chemotherapy treatments. Staying active has been a key component to fighting off long term side effects that occur from Pediatric Cancer Treatments. Playing basketball and shooting hoops has been one way that Haakyn has been able to keep fighting the battle against cancer and keep moving.
Teaming up against Pediatric Cancer is important as families can never be prepared for what they will endure during various pediatric cancer treatments. Parking Passes, Meals, Hospital Stays, Hotel Stays, Oncology Bills, Feeding Tube Supplies, Leg Braces, etc are just a few expenses that insurance typically doesn't cover. 1 in 11 cancer families are forced to file bankruptcy during their cancer journey, all while they help their child fight for their life. Hoops for Haak, Teaming up against Pediatric Cancer, will be donating proceeds from the Hoops 4 Haak tournament to the Children's Cancer Kids Fund. Children's Minnesota has the largest pediatric cancer and blood disorders clinic in the Upper Midwest. Our goal is to donate proceeds from Hoops for Haak to help promote its clinical programs, innovative practices, & family support programs so that we can help cancer kids and their families have the best outcome possible so they can continue living the life they were meant to live.
Hoops 4 Haak is a first annual event, hosted in collaboration with Midwest 3 on 3, at the Maple Grove Community Center on August 24th, 2019. There will be tournament play with a 3 game guarantee, silent auction items, concessions, games, face painting, photo booth and more. It's more than a tournament, more than a fundraiser, its a community coming together to bring awareness to pediatric cancer and the battle we are all up against as cancer diagnosis' events are on the rise. It's an opportunity to assure that families and Cancer Warriors have a chance to become SURVIVORS while being supported by their community!
Everyone is welcome, there will be more to do than just play basketball!
We hope to see you there!
